The Courage to Dream

Szczesny × WaveXplorer — with Sebastian Steudtner

Szczesny paints the boards on which Steudtner rides his spectacular waves. The boards become unique works of art while bearing witness to extraordinary sporting moments — a direct dialogue between art, sport and nature; between the power of colour and the power of the ocean.

Two Lives Shaped by the Sea

Founded by Sebastian Steudtner in 2017, WirMachenWelle brings young people onto a surfboard and into nature.

Sebastian Steudtner left home because of a dream, and because he never stopped believing in it. That belief carried him from Nuremberg to Hawaii at sixteen, alone, and then further still: across the reefs of Ireland, the harbours of Portugal, and every stretch of coastline in between, chasing bigger water and bigger dreams around the world. First came world titles, then the world record in Nazaré, Portugal, for the tallest wave ever ridden.

Stefan Szczesny closes the circle, painting the boards that carried Sebastian through it all, translating scale, force and calm into colour and line. It is a direct dialogue between art, sport and nature; between the power of colour and the power of the ocean.

Every board sold as part of the collaboration helps fund WirMachenWelle's work: surf therapy and mentorship that gives young people the self belief to hold onto a dream, and the courage to chase it.

Stefan Szczesny

One of the world's outstanding big-wave surfers. His spectacular rides on some of the largest waves on Earth represent courage, exceptional physical performance and the direct encounter between human beings and the immense power of the ocean.Sebastian Steudtner left home because of a dream, and because he never stopped believing in it. Now, it's time to give something back, and to pass on the one thing that never changed on the way: the courage to believe in your own dream.Founded by Sebastian Steudtner in 2017, WirMachenWelle brings young people onto a surfboard and into nature. Through surf therapy and mentorship, they learn what once carried Sebastian himself: the self belief to hold onto a dream, and the courage to chase it. The water becomes a place to grow, one wave, one dream, at a time.

Two Lives Shaped by the Sea

It began with a dream. At sixteen, Sebastian Steudtner left Nuremberg for Hawaii, alone, to learn to surf, the same courage that later carried him to the record books and to the biggest waves on earth. Stefan Szczesny closes the circle, painting the boards that carried Sebastian through it all, translating scale, force and calm into colour and line.At the centre of it sits the wave itself: for Steudtner, a force of nature demanding concentration, skill and courage; for Szczesny, a symbol of energy, movement, freedom and the beauty of nature. Together, their work returns what the ocean gave.
